To the relief of all concerned, our 51st International Auction was again a great success. Trade was surprisingly brisk despite the pre sale concerns of the weak dollar and general economic gloom. The rare 28 1/2" Norris jointer, although attracting many absentee bids, was eventually sold in the room for £10,500 plus premium, this must be a record for a conventional Norris plane. Ten Norris planes sold for more than £1000 each. The pair of Varvill plough and fillester illustrated on the back cover sold for £4500. The Mathieson mitre plane fetched £820 and another by Towell made £800. Llot 1109, the metal trimming plane, brought the hammer down at £2000.
Shown below are some of the results.
Price are given in Pounds Sterling and US dollars @2.00
Note: All prices quoted are hammer prices and do not include the buyers' premium of 11.75% inclusive of VAT.
