Lot 190 Lot 190 A presentation lacquered brass and black enamel binocular compound microscope by J. N. SWIFT & SONS, 81 Tottenham Court Road, London, Presented to Rev. Canon Smith by Parishioners and Friends on His Leaving Grange over Sands, May 1888. This is a Wenham type binocular with Wenham and Nicol prisms in separate carriages above the lense stage, with rack and pinion course and fine adjustment, a Swift (Halls type) low powered condenser as described by Carpenter, with 4 lenses and two pairs of eye pieces and stand alone bullseye in orig. mahogany case. No. 358370 measuring 3 1/2" x 1 3/4" designed to fit onto the end of a steel tape, enabling it to be used as a plumb bob or to be hung over an edge or rim to measure the height or depth of a wall or well etc. with quick release mechanism c/w 100ft steel tape, ingenious. Lot 543 Lot 543 A matched pair of very fine quality 29"d/t bronze jointers with Norris style double screw adjuster, hand produced by JOHN F. BROOKS and dated 1929 on the brass lever (this is the date he began his cabinetmaking profession) with stepped toe and heal and polished rosewood infill and handle, with 99% orig. James Howarth irons. John, now well into his 90's and suffering poor health has reluctantly decided to part with his pride and joy. They come in a fitted, brass bound, double lock, mahogany box also made by John. N £3000 / $4440
